A few hours ago we were pleasantly surprised when a photo of Alicia Keys surfaced on our Instagram Feed via Alicia Keys herself. When Keys posted the collage of pictures, the caption says “Look what I done did!!;-))) it’s an #aknewday in EVERY way!!!! )))”
Her new single New Day, was just released 3 weeks ago, and her caption says it all. With the new single, and new hair it’s definitely a new day for Keys. Receiving over 38K comments on Instagram, including one from hubby Swizz Beatz saying “My baby done cut it all off New Day 4 real amazing !!!”
We applaud her for chopping off her hair and embarking on a new style! It really looks amazing.

Photo’s of Queen Bey & baby Blue have been flooding the twittersphere and much to our surprise Bey is rocking blonde box braids!
Bey was first spotted with her “new do” at Nas’ Life Is Good party with hubby Jay Z. Although you can only see the back of her head, the pic immediately took us back to her Destiny’s Child days when she rocked cornrows and
tree braids.
The second spotting of Bey was with baby Blue at Bergdorf Goodman an excited fan @NikiEnglish tweeted “It’s cool. Just shopping next to Beyonce at Bergdorf, baby on her hip. No entourage. She winked at me, no shit.”
How cool is that?!
So what’s our opinion? We love the box braids! She rocks them very well and hey, it’s hot so why not?

Just this morning we were tuned in to the News and heard the current numbers about today’s unemployment rate. As of June 2012 the rate of unemployment was 8.2%
Although it’s not the all time high of 10.8% that it was in November of 1982, it’s still high and only seems to get getting worse. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Just last week an article posted to The Wall Street Journal titled “Why Hairdressers Are Secure: Their Jobs Can’t Be Exported”. This is so true.
The article talks about how service based jobs are in demand, but why? Because these jobs can’t be outsourced. They have to be done by a human being.
Jobs like Nurse Aids, Hair Stylists, Nail Technicians, and Waitresses all have one thing in common. They require you to be hands on with an individual.
There’s no time like the present to hone in on your skills and do what you’re best at.

We are avid readers of fashion and beauty magazines magazines…ok we like the gossip ones too…lol! Lately we’ve been noticing hats. Hat’s are no longer associated with bad hair days! Rock your favorite hat out with friends, or shopping. Have fun and be creative like Carrie Bradshaw from one of our favorite shows Sex and The City.
So who has the best buys when it comes to hats?. You can find some great hats reasonably priced at Target, TJ MAXX, and Forever 21!
Here’s the real reason why we love this trend so much. When you’re in between weaves and your edges were screaming “braid me up!”, or if your natural hair is in need of some good ole’ TLC, you’ll be glad you read this!
So, if you’re looking for an alternative to the ponytail when you’re headed to the beach, in between weaves, riding in a convertible, having a bad hair day or just want to change it up a bit opt for a hat. They’re super fun!

We came across an article the other day that said redheads are becoming extinct. Shocked we decided to do some research of our own and come to find out, there was some truth to it. In fact genetic scientists have said that the last redhead will be born in 2015.
So in honor of natural Redheads, this blog post is all about achieving that beautiful color for our clients!
Be careful because not every skin tone can pull off a bold red color. The last thing you want is to be laughed at, or if you’re the stylist you definitely do not want your client running to some one else’s chair because her color didnt come out right.
Warm reds look best on pink, neutral, or even yellow undertones.
With many celebs like Rhianna rocking red hues you’re sure to have clients asking to try out these tones. Now, if you have a client that’s not too sure about changing her natural hair that color, always suggest adding some extensions or a sew in weave in the preferred color to see if they like it.

DIY home hair care mixtures are excellent and they make your hair feel great if you combine the right ingredients. Some awesome main stream products came from from DIY home hair care mixtures.
There are a ton of things in your kitchen you can find to use on your hair like, lemon, mayonnaise, and coconut oil. Mixing simple things like Apple Cider Vinegar and Water will give your hair shine and body. For dandruff, mix some castor oil, coconut oil and mustard, equal parts and apply to the scalp.
