What Are Cornrows?

Cornrows are a traditional style of hair braiding originating from West Africa. To achieve this beautiful look, the hair is braided tightly to the scalp in a continuous, raised pattern. Cornrows can be produced using various techniques which result in a multitude of designs including straight, geometric, or curved styles. They’re often adorned with colorful beads or shells which enhance their beauty. When done by a skilled professional, cornrows generally last between 2 and 4 weeks.

How To Increase The Longevity Of Your Cornrows

You can ensure the longevity of your cornrows by properly caring for your hair and scalp, which means avoiding washing your cornrows and protecting them at night by wrapping your head in a silk scarf.  By wrapping your cornrows in a silk scarf before going to bed, you are avoiding the breakage that can be caused by cotton pillow cases.  Remember, increasing the longevity of your cornrows and caring for your cornrows is a simple process, now it's up to you to make it happen!
