Grace & Peace. I hope you and everyone is having a good afternoon. I love you and your spirit. I keep my hair locked. I can twist it myself but I like going to have it done. Also I found your answers and questions video very helpful. Thanks for all the tips on hair care & hair dvds you made. I OWN about four. Love all of them. I like what you said in this video about how you challenged yourself. I needed to hear that. Because I attend Lucille Roberts and they have put on a chanllenge for 30 women to try to lose 20 pounds from now to January 2, 2010. Weighing in weekly. I am trying out for it. I need the motivation. You doing these videos encourage me a lot. I said before I feel a connection to you. God knows what we have in need of. Before I came on the computer to check out my site. I was thinking about eating more than I should have. Knowing I have to weigh in at Lucilles. And there your message was waiting for me to open. I knew God is looking out. I can win t- shirts for 10 pds of weight loss and 6 months free off my membership dues. But it is people like you Marquetta that reminds me health first . I want my cholesterol to come down so I will not need medicine. Everything else is secondary. Keep the videos coming Blessing to all…..Nina P.S Enjoy the Hoidays

    hello,
very good question about the diffrent flat irons i'm looking forward to seeing them.

  • rbarrera

I cannot wait to see the video on flat irons, because I have went through them. I am currently using a Torlen flat iron and it does ok but does not give me that silky look I want and see other women having. I have tried a Chi before but could not see where it was worth the money. I am interest to see what you come up with and what suggestions you make.

I loved the questions and I appreciate the answers because they help me with my own hair and they help me with my “clients” as well…I try to find ways to get my hair back to the way that it was. In my pre certified stylist days I had colors on top of colors on top of bleach on my hair, not to mention my hair fell out horribly in my crown area due to partial kinky twists (I did around the front and the nape area and left the middle out so there was about the size of large kiwi left open in the middle of my hair). I didn't grease it, nor did i oil it until after i realized that my hair fell out. So after I cut it back in 2006, I've been nurturing it and I can tell that my hair is healthier than it used to be. I'm just trying to get it to where it is full of body, thick and moisturized. I already wash and roll my hair once a week when I don't have it braided. I use the Olive Oil relaxer and moisturizer to keep it looking nice, as well as the oil sheen. To work on the thickness of my hair I try keeping my hair braided and I use this grease (the only time I use grease on my hair now because it works really well with growing and thickening hair) called Pine Tar. It's really smelly, like pine trees and tar mixed together, but it works wonders. I used it this summer while I had braids in for a little more than two months and my hair grew more than two and a half inches and it got thicker. What do you recommend me using to get more body and thickness? Have you used Olive Oil Relaxer? Is there anything better than Olive Oil? And about the flat irons, The best flat Iron that I have ever used was this flat iron that I purchased in my kit for my cosmetology class that had purple ceramic iron plates and it got really hot. It worked wonders. I don't remember the name, but i just know that ceramic irons are the best.

    Hey Marquetta,
I first want to thank you for the services you provide. Your instrucitons and advice are life changing. God Bless you for walking in your gift. Anyway, my question is about the Milstan Feather Flat Iron. I have heard a lot of good things about it, and wanted to know your opinion. It would be great if you would discuss this particular iron on your webcast comaring flat irons.

THe flat irons I'd like you to discuss are the following: Conair Infinity, Blue Diamond Sapphire (love it), Hair Art, and ghd. What do yo think about these brands?

    Marquetta,

I love watching your videos; thanks so much for doing this. I also loved your answer to the young lady about “putting on her big girl panties”…. LOVED IT! That is exactly what I was thinking. I want everyone to do what works best for them, not anyone else. I am currently natural, growing my hair after cutting off 2yr old dreads. Relaxers make my hair thin and shed so I've accepted that. When I want straight hair, I put on a wig! LOL Also, I feel a connection to you… we are very similar. I am 5'2″ and in 2007 when I was diagnosed w/ Diabetes, I weighed 171. I am @ 154 right now. I am about to re-joing Bally's and try to get down to about 145 or so. Is 144 your ideal weight or are you trying to lose more? I want my body to be proportioned, not skinny. Have you ever posted your workout routine?

  • Marquetta Breslin

    KBerry05,

Girl, I've been stuck at 144 for about 2 or 3 months now. No, that's not my ideal weight, it's actually about 120-125 because I will be competing. Off season months, I'm fine with 130. I'm so excited to hear you're getting in shape! That's awesome! Yes, I did post a workout video a few weeks ago. Here's the link:

    Nakita,

I love this! You have sparked an interest. You mentioned you use Pine Tar on your hair. I'm familiar with Pine Tar, but not as a hair product, more so as a hoof care product for horses and cattle (girl…dont ask…LOL). This is very interesting because there is another product that's used for hoof care called Megatek that we also use on our hair for hair growth. I'm not sure if the consistency is the same, but very interesting. I'm going to have to test this out and let you all know my findings!

Your body, in my opinion, is going to depend on the products that you use. For instance, I've found that when I use a “heavy” conditioner like, Humectress by Nexxus, it weighs my hair down. Dont get me wrong I LOVE that conditioner, but I cant use it all the time. I've switched to Mizani products and havent had any issues. In fact, I was using Mizani in the video I just posted about the Lashes. My hair had a ton of body and movement.

Thickness is tricky. I had this issue some time ago and found that it was due to stress. My hair started thinning when I found out my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Since, I've cut my hair about 2 or 3 times and havent had that problem. I'm not saying your hair thinning is atributed to stress, I'm just saying it could be a number of things as I'm sure you're already aware of.

I've never use Olive Oil Relaxer. I tend to stick with Mizani products. I probably sound like a Mizani commercial…LOL! Lately though, I've heard that the Mizani relaxers do not last as long as others. More to come on that theory…

  • Marquetta Breslin

    Yolanda,

Great brands…I will definately share my thoughts on these for the video! Thanks!

  • Nakita Manigault

HOOF CARE???? oh my…Im gonna have to research that one..lol…I've had that same problem with using conditioners and when I used to use grease on my hair and scalp. I would realize that even if i roller set my hair, After about two or three days, my hair would be flat and I would find myself having to flat iron it just to get the curl back…ANNOYING!!!! That's why I started using Olive oil. the conditioner is wonderful!!!! It makes your hair really soft, and it doesn't weigh your hair down. Olive oil helps with the body in my hair too because I could go for a whole week without curling my hair or even looking at a flat iron…AWESOME!!! And I can go for 6 weeks without having to do a touch up. Before when i used to use profectiv, parnevu, MOTIONS(they sicken me lol) and a bunch of other relaxers, i couldn't last for longer than 3 weeks without having to relax it. So i'm head over heels in love with olive oil, untill i find something better…

My hair isn't thin at all, in fact it is pretty thick, but i just want more thickness for some reason. My hair was a lot thicker when i was younger, but after mommy stopped doing it and i got my hands in it, my hair didn't agree, and my Aunt messed me up big time one summer…but anywho…I just want super thick and long hair. After I cut mine it has gotten 500 times better…

I shy away from grease because of the clogged pores, ect. I really does weigh the hair down as well. I love using Perfect for Perms by Razak. It's fairly light and add great moisture. Mizani also has a creme based moisturizer that doesnt weigh the hair down.

What brand is the Olive Oil relaxer you use? I've gotten Rave Reviews from Design Essentials. I've heard their relaxers last upwards of 5 weeks! I havent tried it yet, but after I get my hair braided I plan on giving them a try.

I've heard that Megatek can help with thinkening hair, but I havent tried it for myself so I'm not so sure about that. I'm with you. I want long thick hair too! I year of wearing braids/sew-in's down, probably 1 more to go…LOL!

  • Nakita Manigault

I used to live by grease…dry scalp use grease…itchy scalp grease…bald head grease….lol But within the last few years I went from using extra light grease, to just using moisturizer and oil sheen. I've never heard of the Perfect for perms. I may have to go and look for that one. We used Mizani in school during our training, but i've never used it personally. May try it.

It's Organic Root Stimulator. it works really well for me. This is the only relaxer that I've used that actually lasts so long. Even with washing it once a week. Keeps the hair light and bouncy lol!!!

Wearing braids works well for me too. During the school year I can't really keep my hair braided like how I would like because I can't go to classes with half a head of braids. Professors would look at me like I'm crazy…You tryin to be a teacher and you walking in here lookin like that…you must be out of your everlasting mind…So when we have breaks I do it up and keep it in for the bulk of the semester and over the summer. I have Senegalese twists now. I'm trying to keep them in until my birthday in January. they holding out except for the fact that my hair is growing so fast due to that PINE TAR!!!! YAY ME!!!! But I might redo the front during our thanksgiving break.
