Going…Going…Blonde!

**********
Announcement: My annual Christmas Sale is live. I put together a
great value with this one and you wont want to miss it! Check it out.
**********

Yep, you read right. I’m going blonde. It’s definitely been both a learning experience, and a process.

Before I started this process I had colored my hair to a dark/medium brown level 4 or 5 with lots of red and violet undertones.

Before one of my best friends made the suggestion to go blonde I had already thought about it, then when she suggested it to me I decided to go ahead and give it a go.

First things first. Where do I start? I already have red and red, and violet which are known for being difficult to break through. So my first thought was to use a product to get as much of the “color” out as possible without using bleach on my hair. I definitely didn’t want to do that. » read more

You Are Too Old For That Hairstyle!

So Monday I spent the day in the salon servicing 2 VIP clients. My Mom and my Cousin. :)

They both always bring a new “challenge” to me with almost every hairstyle I perform for them and this time was no different.

My cousin wanted a simple Sew In just like the one I demonstrate in my $10 downloadable video. Simple and easy, but then she decided she wanted it custom Ombre’d on the ends. » read more

Why You Should NOT Give Your Client A Sew In

I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving! I had sooo much fun with my family and friends. It was one of the best Thanksgivings I’ve ever had!

The only “bad” thing is that I caught someones cold or flu or something. Yikes!

Even though I’m not feeling well, I felt the need to share with you something I recently experienced at my salon.

I had a very sweet client come in thats been waiting for quite a bit of time to get a partial sew in.

I completed her consultation, custom colored her extensions, and yesterday was her big day, but we had a tad bit of a snag.

During the consultation I told her it would be a good idea to get her roots touched up prior to the extensions to ensure her color was on point. » read more

I Just Want To Say Thank You…

**********
Cutting Mastery is available now for only 100 people. Discover how to cut hair
like a professional and watch your income and clients increase like never before.
**********

Whoa where has the day gone? I literally just ran upstairs from my kitchen to type up this blog to say Thank You!

I wanted to be one of the first to tell you that I’m thankful for you. Every year I sit down and email you and tell you that I’m thankful for you, but I truly am.

I’m thankful for your loyalty, and your willingness and eagerness to learn everything that God has given me the ability to teach. So, for that I cannot say thank you enough!

Thank you for being you!

I get “Thank You” emails all the time, but it’s those emails to me that keep me going.

In fact, I want to share one with you right now…

“I just wanted to send a “thank you” for everything you do and offer our industry. I have been a licensed hairstylist/esthetician for 19yrs and rarely have time to physically attend classes. Your videos have allowed not only me, but my employees to understand a plethora of techniques. I was dreading the idea of seeking out some hair cutting classes to invigorate my skills (a good habit takes only one time not doing it to abandon it) and rekindle those things I no longer do to provide the best cut. But then, out of the blue came your teaser last week for your Cutting Mastery and I knew I would purchase it. Your products are always 5-star! Happy Holidays to you and your staff!!!!”

I will end this blog on that note. As much as you appreciate me, just know that I appreciate you more.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

The Top 3 Conditioners I Use On My Clients

Happy Monday! I’m sitting in my office getting excited about Thanksgiving because my entire family will be here. I think I may even break out the camera and post a short blog after it’s over, we’ll see!

OK so let me get straight to the point. I was asked on Facebook the other day what my favorite conditioners are for my clients so I decided to share with you my answer in no specific order.

1. Moroccanoil – Restorative Hair Mask

The Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask product is amazing and I love it. I mainly use it on my clients who have damaged or color treated hair.

It’s excellent and sometimes I even mix a teaspoon of actual Moroccan Oil with the mask to add shine and moisture.

Just like all of their other masks this one does not require any heat.

It’s only required to be on the hair for 5-7 minutes.

2. Sebastian – Penetraitt

This Sebastian Penetraitt product is recommended for chemically treated or damaged hair, but I love to use it on natural hair as a steam treatment.

You would not believe the result I get after using this product on my natural clients. It’s truly amazing.

Recently I discovered if I use this product on dry/natural hair for about 10 minutes underneath the drier while the hair is completely dry, it’s so much easier to shampoo and condition the hair afterwards.

3. Wella – Enrich

All of the 3 conditioners I’ve mentioned can be used on relaxed hair or natural hair, but this is my “go to” conditioning treatment for most of my relaxed clients.

It’s specially formulated for coarse hair, and trust me when I say…it’s truly amazing. This Wella Enrich treatment for coarse hair leaves the hair soft, silky and easy to manage.

I customize conditioning treatments for my clients, and when I do they always come back saying, “Do that thing you did to my hair again, it felt so soft, bouncy and silky!”

So there you have it! Have a favorite conditioner? I’d love to hear your favorites. Share them by posting your comments on the blog.

Be blessed!

“10 Minute Sew In” Honest Review

About a month or so ago, one of my favorite clients came in to get her 2 week maintenance for her sew-in weave. She’s Active Duty Air Force and has been natural for a little over 4 years.

She has beautiful hair already, but likes to wear her hair in a protective style sew-in because they’re required to do PT (Physical Training) 3 times per week.

While at her maintenance appointment, she told me that she was online doing some research and found this thing called the “Ten Minute Sew-In”.

The name rung a bell, but a vague one…lol! I had seen something on YouTube, but I never looked any further for whatever reason.

She ordered the piece and called to schedule an appointment immediately. Her appointment was this past Saturday. When she bought the piece in, I will admit I was a tad bit nervous about what I was going to see, but I kept an open mind.

According to their website the Ten Minute Sew-In is an innovative, revolutionary Patent Pending unit that can be attached in less that 10 minutes and removed in less than 5 minutes. It can be worn for several months or a few days.

These pieces are also said to be made with Luxury Virgin Hair.

The Units come in 4 different textures… Straight, Relaxed, Wavy, and Curly. The Units also come in different densities ranging from 10.5oz through 6.5oz.

Much to my surprise the piece was constructed very well. I was impressed with its flexibility. Wefts were sewn on to the cap, but the cap had ample breathing room because of the spacing of the wefts. » read more

5 Tips For Wearing Your Sew-In

On Friday I had one of my regular clients come in to the salon to get her sew in tightened.

While I was working on her hair she was telling me about a friend of hers who literally wears her sew-in for 6 months at a time!

She said she just wears, and wears, and wears it until it gets to the point that she can’t comb through the hair, then she takes it out and get’s it re-done the same day.

If you’re a stylist,  Please don’t do this! You should be educating your client on a regular basis about the care and maintenance for their sew-in.

Offer them a maintenance program where for special pricing they can come in every 2 weeks and get their hair maintained underneath the sew-in. » read more

Why I Fired My Rude Client

I have to get something off my chest. I usually don’t do this but there’s a time and a place for everything and the time for this e-mail is now.

Have you every had a client that just worked your nerves so bad? Was she/he difficult, rude or disrespectful?

I have, and I want to share with you how I handled it and how you can handle clients like this.

One of my regular clients called me to schedule an appointment. She requested to have her hair, trimmed, full head of hi-lites, and a full head of strand-by-strand extensions. No big deal.

She’s been into the salon a few times and had met my assistant who has shampooed her hair before and had conversations with her. This particular day I had him come in early so we could set up and get the ball rollin’ quickly. » read more

Weddings, Hair & Bears… Oh My!

Last Monday around 6:00pm me, Ricky, and the kids pulled up to our house from my cousin’s wedding. I have to say it was the best wedding I’ve ever been to!

Let me just share how much fun we had.

We left Summerville Friday morning around 11:00am (3 hours behind…). I drove the entire way and Ricky and I listened to our educational CDs along the way so we lost no productivity.

Once we got close to Asheville, NC we started to see some mountains. The view was breathtaking, but little did we know we’d see a lot more! » read more
