My Weight Loss Journey

Are you ready to get in shape? I sure was. Over a year ago I started my weight loss journey. It was definitely a struggle, but the past 6 months, I decided to get “dialed in” and focused. I have started seeing results (progress pictures are posted on my Facebook page). I’ve gotten questions from so many of you asking for work out tips, so I decided to film one of my workouts. This was a hard one, but I felt great after it was all over!

Share your thoughts! I can’t wait to chat with you all!

Terrific Job! Very powerful video. This is a great encouragement for me to get to the gym. Thank you so much for you work and I look forward to being a braid student of yours one day soon.

  • ariellekgood

Girl, I'm tired just watching… LOL… Very inspirational though… I've been trying to get on my grind too… Thanks for posting!

  • kberry05

Marquetta, I got tired just watching you! You are bringing it and it shows, you're looking great. I WAS addicted to working out… but I fell off the wagon and I am having a hard time managing my time and getting back on the wagon. I DO have diabetes, and high blood pressure and high cholesterol! I thought that all the cardio and weight training I was doing would make it so I could get off of all the medicine I take, but I went to the doctor twice in the last couple of months and instead of getting off or lessening my medication, he added 2 more! I was soooo discouraged… I still am. So I haven't worked out since then. Thats not a good reason, but I am finding it hard to understand why I would bother if working out everyday and sometimes twice in one day didn't get me any results. PLUS I was barely losing any weight! It's really got me down. But watching your video has kinda sparked an interest in getting back to it for me…. I'll watch it again when I go home and see what happens. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  • MarieMahogany

What the hell??? Girl!!!! This is serious workout here!! Marquetta, a while ago you sent an email about FatLoss4 Idiots and how it helped you. I would love to try it out. Do you still recommend it? Please respond to me. Am really desperate to loose weight.

  • tadonyaharris

Marquetta, girl that looked like a good work out. I need to get back in the gym my self so I can get my workout on. I spend 80 dollars for a gym membership and do go. I just get so intemidated in there and then I don't know what to do besides getting on the tredmill. I can afford a personal trainer, so what is a girl to do? but I love the workout out, keep up the great work ;-D

  • Red

I plan on starting a workout program within the next 6 months. I don't have much time. Marquetta, could you give me some advice on what to look for in a trainer in that I have never trained before.

    Thanks!
P.S. I really liked your training session. How long did it take for you to get to level three?

  • TinaJ

G-i-r-l……WOW !!! I have been working out religiously, 5 days a week, since January 09, and just like “kberry05″, have not seen any significant changes to my body. But I now see that I've been following a “sissy” routine and need to really increase the intensity, and bring it on. I really needed your inspirational kick in the butt!!! Thank you so much for sharing your workout. Do you also have a lower body routine that you will be sharing?

  • jocheved

Hope I can keep you posted on Facebook,(On my own road to modeling myself after u.)

    Hi Marquetta,
Thank you for sharing your workout. I have started walking a minimum of 3 miles per day and I have lost some inches, the part that is a bit challenging is giving up junk food, especially ice-cream. Do you have any suggestions on what to eat that is health but still taste good? Thanks

  • Nina

Grace & Peace again. Please keep the videos coming. I personally am enjoying them. This topic for discussion is one I do. There was a time I did not want to work out. I have a treadmill I also do some of the excercise on the cable. They have an excercise on demand channel. I like walking with Leslie on the start walking selection. I just found disco abs on the ab selection. That one is by Cheryl Burke from dancing with the stars. It is awsome.I am now attending Lucille Roberts. Love it. Me and my mom go together some times. You look great and continue being an inspiration to me and others. I feel a blessed connection with you. Thank you for bringing so much joy in my life with teaching me how to braid and make wigs and do weaves. I do not want to cry but my eyes are tearing up.God Bless you and your family continually….Sister Nina

    Hi Marquetta,

This video was fantastic. And you are right…it does pay off. Exercising benefits your health in so many ways. For one thing it sends you energy level through the roof. You have a much higher sense of wellbeing also.

I have lost weight and followed an exercise routine similar to what you are doing and it paid off big time for me. I lost 25 pounds, my body was very toned and my clothes looked great on me. That was about three years ago. It was tough going at first, but you were right when you said it can become addictive. I got to the point where I actually looked forward to working out and felt like my day wasn't complete unless I did it.

I let everyday life get in the way and gained some of the weight back, and stopped exercising regularly, but I am newly inspired to get back to it because being healthy and fit improves the quality of your life so much. I know this for a fact.

Thanks for this video. It was inspiring.

  • Marquetta Breslin

It's easy to fall of the wagon and hard to get back on, trust me! It is very hard, but you can do it! Just literally do it one day at a time. I'm really surprised you were put on more medication! Had you any weight loss?

It's also important to eat properly when you're working out (I'm sure you know that already). How were you eating?

Don't let it get you down! You can beat all 3!!

  • Marquetta Breslin

LOL! The book is what I used to start my journey and I like it, but now I only follow my trainer's stuff 100%.

The site for the book is http://www.fatloss4idiots.com and my trainer's site is http://www.shapingconcepts.com.

    You can do it!

  • kberry05

I was losing inches, but not so much in pounds. Which I know that muscle weighs more, but for the amount of working out I was doing I expected more. I pretty much know that I don't eat properly. When I strictly watch my carbs and sugar I was starving and losing weight quickly and just looking crack-headish.. Not cool. But when I just eat my normal way my blood sugars are all over the place. I can't get a happy medium. One of the meds he added was to help with the diabetes and to protect my kidneys I believe, the other was for my blood pressure! With my 2 vitamins I now take about 8 pills a day! He also told me that it was possible that because all of this stuff was hereditary I might never be able to get of the meds… maybe just decrease them. That took all the wind out my sail!

  • MarieMahogany

Marquetta, thank you so much for replying to me. When I saw that you responded, tears came out of my eyes. I have 120pounds at least to loose. So I will definitely give this book a serious try. God bless you tenfold you, your family and your business.

  • tonya_g

Wow! That was incredible!! I use to be the same size as you before I had children, know I'm fighting to get back in the same direction. You have really inspired me to get back into the gym and to get a personal trainer as well!! At first I thought you were going to just show us half then cut the video but I was fooled!!!! That right there really showed me that you care for the people!!!!

    Thanx,
    T. Garner

  • LaLa

Hi Marquetta you look great. That's a serious work-out, grown folks only, LOL. I too am overweight, I haven't been able to lose it since having my kids,(they are 14 and 11 btw). I need to lose at least 60lbs to be at a healthy weight. My problem is my back, I had back surgery in 2001, and it hurts now more than ever. I was wondering if you could ask your trainer, what would be some safe workouts for me in addition to walking. Is weight training a good idea? I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Melinda

Hey Marquetta! Your workout session was beautiful! I feel as if I am not alone in my health and weight loss journey as well! I have definitely been dedicated for the last year to eating right, exercising and staying healthy in general. I too like you have those issues of diseases on both sides of my family, and I totally feel the same way you do about being healthy. I also will incorporate some of the workout reps that you do to my own workout! I have recently gotten a trainer myself to help me get to where I want to be physically. Thank God he is a friend so he does it for free!;)

You are so brilliant and I Thank You so much for sharing all the information you do about hair, health and life!

    Smooches~

Hi Marquetta, I have also started working out with a personal trainer this year. I am proud of you. But working out has so many great benefits; the way you feel afterwards, the way your clothes start to look. I have a ways to go but I keep going. But to see your results are another great motivator for me not to give up. The success of weight loss comes in small steps that add up to the big finally which is ultimately to feel and look great! Prould of your success!!!!!!!

  • mskaluv

    Hello; Marquetta,

I really enjoyed your video! You are a great motivator and I too have been fighting for a year in a half to slim down and stay healthy! In 2008 I fell and injured both knees, and my back . But since then I've decided to keep up the faith and try and do my excerise regiments from a physical therapy aspect! I have also incorporated 3 times a week the treadmill, and walking to continue to strengthen my muscles, I have been seeing Results! Mainly because I'm determined and I've also choose to eat more healthy. I do eat normal foods but I have cut down on my portions and Fresh Fruits and Vegetables are a Favorite. I am excited to see that Many Women today with or without health Issues are starting to get back on the band wagon of success and have decided to prolong there lives as God intends us All too do! Thank You Again for your Inspiration and Success. (God Bless)

  • Yolandah

Thanks for sharing Marquetta! You are truly an inspiration to many! I need to lose about 50lbs, I belong to a gym but it is not as much fun going alone. I seem to enjoy going with others but that doesn't last long, I guess I just need to think about the benefit it is foe me and make the time to put in my own and then watch them weep when they see the new me! By the way, the hair looks great! Thanks again for sharing and being a motivational force to others!

Girl, Girl, Girl. Just when I had made my mind up to join Curves and get some rid of this baby fat that has been lingering for eight years, you go and post this boot camp work out. I'm impressed! I knew that it was a lot of work, but my thoughts about what a workout consisted of prior to watching this video, is not even scratching the surface. I need to step my A game up. Pray for me LOL!

  • JUDIA

damn….girl what a workout you got to going ON

  • Teresia

You are truly an inspiration!! I WISH that could be me. I too have battled with my weight. The hardest part for me is getting started!!! I just recently lost about 30lbs. Unfortunately it was all low carb and my eating habits have returned!! I want to be healthy, but how do you find that drive!!?? Cancer also runs in my family. I have a daughter who I want to be here for a very long time. PLEASE keep doing what you're doing. If you can run a company, take care of your kids and husband, and find time to work out then this is proof that it can be done!!! You are my motivation!!! Keep it coming!!! Oh yeah, it was SO painful to watch!!!!

  • Bonnie

This is great…hurry and please share more…becus I'm join a gym soon. I'm so hype because I use to love working out but I have questions. I have concerns with weight training for women over 35.

Hello Marquetta loved the video, Is it easier to do the trainning with a personnel trainner that with a husband, boyfriend or fiancess? Im just asking because my fiancee use to compete he is still getting awards from Joe wieder and Arnold. Now he is trainning me and he is just hard core, I really start feeling like he dose things on purpose just because im his soon to be wife. There are times when this man has me crying and im like this is not how working out is suppose to go, I feel like im in a boot camp it is crazy. Every one says that it is working cuz they can see the weight loss but i can't see it yet however my baby is just down right mean when it comes to working out. I understand that this is something he has been doing since he was in High school so he is very seriouse when it comes to working out. I respect that but shoot I use to argue with him that what he was doing was in humane and he told me stop crying and “work it out no pain no gain, Im the Terminator and im here to help you terminate that fat.”. I was like Aww this man has lost his mind, I am use to it now but I was just wondering are all trainners like drill sgt or what? I love him so much until we get out to the gym and he changes into the terminator.

Hi Maquetta you look great. I go to the gym five days a week, I take Aqua fitness classes three days the other two days I ride the bike for 20 min. and do weight exercises for an hour. I have not realy lose any weight maybe a few inches, but I feel great ! It gets me out of the house. Iam retired now after 34 years of teaching school.

  • Denise Boroff

    Hi Marquetta
My sister and I have started a weight loss challenged amongst each other. Are weight stats are 290, 240 and 239. My nephew is in it as well. He is 10 years about 5 feet weighing 140. We started October 5 and the end date is March 9,, 2010. The one who loses the most weight will get $120 to buy an outfit of their choice.
For a online contestI had a trainer 2 years ago and dropped 32 lbs and gain muscle in 12 weeks. I have since gained the weight back. On August 11th of this year my husband of 4 years 11 months and 3 weeks and friend of 25 years died from a syndrome called Guilian Barre. You don't usually die from this syndrome but due to poor hospital medical procedures and his being moved per the insurance company caused his body to develop pneumonia and multiple organ failure. He got attacked with a virus 1 week after me and in 57 days he was gone.
I have decided it is time to take care of me. I was at the hospitals everyday sometimes twice a day. I am working on getting the weight off once and for all as well as taking time out for me spiritually and mentally. By getting back into an exercise routine I feel that I will better handle the grieving process and be able to focus on making money to cover what my husband was bringing home. I am currently working part time and on unemployment. My husband did not have any life insurance or retirement because the job of 25 years was sold in 2007 and the new company did not offer these benefits or the salary to afford them. I believe that as I get to my correct weight I will of course feel much better about myself and be much more productive.
Thanks for sharing your workout video. It is motivating for me. I will let you know my progress.
    Denise B

That's great! You're staying active! Even though you're not losing actual weight at least you're losing iches! Good job!

  • Marquetta Breslin

    LaLa,

I'm very sorry to hear about your back issue. My husband had a bad back and since loosing weight and getting in shape (also train's with Shane) he is able to do things he could never do before!

Here's the link to Shane's blog http://www.shapingconcepts.com/blog/. There's a ton of information in there about everything from how you should eat to why women dont loose weight.

  • Marquetta Breslin

Get it girl! I'm so excited for you!! It's so good that you and your Mom go together. Stay healthy and keep up the good work!

  • Marquetta Breslin

The answer to your question was in the second sentence where you said “I pretty much know that I don't eat properly.” It's soo important to eat properly expecially when you're working out. The key to weight loss is, in my opinion, about 85% to 90% what you eat. Shane, my trainer, has taught me soo much about how I should be eating and why it's so important. Here's the link to quite a few blogs Shane has written about nutrition http://www.shapingconcepts.com/blog/category/nu….

The devil is a lie! Let's pray that you WILL get off those med's with the right diet and exercise regimen!

  • Marquetta Breslin

You're welcome! Stay healthy!! Good luck!

  • Marquetta Breslin

Here are a ton of exercise video's Shane filmed. These video's are specific to different muscle groups. Do one muscle group at a time by picking 2 to 3 of the exercise video's, add 30 minutes of cardio and you should be good to go!

Wow, Marquetta congratulations on your fitness journey and I wish you luck on reaching your goals. I recently began getting serious about my health and for the last 3 weeks I have been faithfully exercising about 4-5 times per week. I haven't seen any significant weight loss as yet, but I feel great and I am now excited to get up and exercise. Because I feel so much better than I did before, I am encouraged to continue. This video is also an added inspiration for me.

This is a very extensive workout, too extensive. Do you have beginner videos? I see the cuts coming in your arms!!LOL It really takes hard work and motivation. Keep it up! I've been wanting to lose weight and get healthy for a long time now but I need someone to push and motivate me. My husband is on the road alot. He would be my biggest motivation, but he really doesn't have the time and I've tried to workout alone, but it's hard. The gym is out of the question at the moment. Do you have any suggestions?

  • mandymac

Your trainer is HOT! Is he currently taking new clients?

Don't really like my look lately, don't (can't, I should say) eat much, bad stomach, & always tired. I want to exercise & every time i start my back hurts or I don't see results fast enough so I get mad & quit. Then I started a gym but had to stop because of finances, So, could you or Shane give me some exercise suggestions that can be done at home or even work cause I'm on my feet doing hair all day. My size is 10-12, but i would like to be a solid 8. my bottom half is my focus…help
