What you don’t know about braid care and maintenance can hurt you. In fact, I recall a time when I was nearly in tears because I made some common mistakes in regard to caring for my braids. It wasn’t pretty – and from the hundreds of e-mails I receive from my customers as well as the patrons I meet in my salon – I know I’m not alone in my experience. Maybe you can relate to it, as well. Screaming Kids & $10 DVDs – What A Weekend!

I hope you’re off to a great start this week. I certainly am!

Last Friday I received my June/July issue of Sophisticates Black Hair Magazine. I always get excited when I get any type of hair magazine in the mail.

This time since I was still in the car I passed the magazine off to my daughter Nya to hold for me until I pulled into the driveway. (more…)

Going Natural: Is It A Fad?

Natural hair salons are popping up all around the country for people who have decided to go natural and leave the relaxers alone.

The big thing I was so excited about was being able to wear 20 inch sew-in weaves.

I absolutely love it, but the one thing I’ve had to learn (more…)

Have You Ever Had One Of Oprah’s “Ah Ha Moments”?

Last night I took the kids to meet their teachers at school.

It was quite interesting and fun!

I don’t know about you, but no matter where I go I always seem to somehow tie hair or hairstyles in the mix! 8-)

Well, last night was no different, but this time I didn’t have to throw it in the mix because everybody was talking about it… I kept hearing, (more…)

Can’t Never Could, But You Can!

My Dad would always say, “Quet, stop saying you can’t because Can’t Never Could!”.

I never understood what that meant when my Dad would tell me that, but now I get it.

It seems like over the last past couple of weeks all I’ve been hearing is I can’t cornrow. After my friend’s success I felt the need to share this story with you. (more…)

Why Do You Care So Much About My Hair?

One of my close friends called me the other day just to chat and catch up. One of the things we ALWAYS take about is our hair. She’s been natural for years now. At the time she went natural I also went natural, but later decided to relax my hair.

Unhappy about my decision at the time, she tried her best to talk me out of it. (more…)
