Caring For Your Synthetic Wig

Many wigs are made of natural-looking synthetic hair. Though they may look natural, the maintenance of synthetic wigs differs greatly from human hair wigs. The following tips will help you to take great care of your synthetic wig:
1) Use products designed specfically for synthetic hair or fibers. Even the mildest human hair care product can cause damage and dryness to your synthetic wig. Branded products such as Look of Love, Raquel Welch, Tress Allure, and Revlon are excellent for synthetic wigs.
2) Your synthetic wig needs a complete washing only after you wear it on ten or twelve occasions. Also, since scalp oils collect on the wig cap, that may need washing as well. If you use sprays or gels, you must wash your wig more often.
3) You need to be cautious of the fact that every wash lowers the duration of your synthetic wig. Reduce washes by using sprays and gels infrequently, and use a cap beneath your wig to absorb scalp oils.
4) Use combs and hairbrushes that are made for synthetic wigs. Additionally, use a comb with rubber-tip bristles to prevent the splitting of synthetic hair fibers. This prevents your wig from getting a worn-out look long before its time.
5) Never use any electrical styling appliances such as blow dryers or curling irons, as these can melt your wig.
6) Use a lubricant-like wig spray to remove tangles from your synthetic wig.
7) When you need to wash your wig, soak it in cold shampoo water for five minutes. This removes hard dirt and only requires gentle rubbing to clean fibers.
8) Rinse off shampoo with water that flows in the direction of your wig's hair fibers. Towel-dry your wig after washing and apply a light conditioner to ease brushing and restore lost shine.
9) Do not use a brush on your wig until it is fully dry. You may finger-comb it before it is dry.
10) Use soft sponge rollers for curling your synthetic wig. Once they have been inserted in the wig, pass hot water through it and remove the rollers only after the wig is fully dry.
