Healthy hair is arguably one of the best physical assets we can have. But unfortunately, few people seem to understand the importance of proper hair maintenance. There is a common misconception that hair care is meant only for women.

The fact is that men can benefit from good hair care as well. With proper attention, men can reduce the chances of hair loss and other problems to a large extent. Here are some practical and effective tips for healthy, strong, and great-looking hair regardless of gender.

* Treat it gently - Comb your hair with a wide toothcomb. Also, comb your hair gently. Don't comb your hair when it is wet, as this weakens your hair.

* Dry your hair carefully - While the market may be bombarded with all sorts of flat iron appliances, it's always better to let your hair dry naturally. If you think it's not possible to dry your hair naturally, use your flat iron carefully. Apply even pressure when you stroke your flat iron. Use your flat iron with the same pressure from the root to the tip of the hair, without stopping in between the sections of your hair.

* Be choosy with your cosmetic products - Don't use harsh detergent-based shampoos, or even worse - soaps. They tend to make your hair extremely dry, leaving it without the necessary oil and moisture content. It's always better to go for mild shampoos, and it's essential to apply a conditioner afterwards.

* Be aware of your scalp condition - The kind of cosmetics you use should be suitable to your hair. People with dry hair should use moisturizers to maintain the natural balance of their hair. People with oily hair can wash their hair regularly, but only with a pH-balanced mild shampoo.

* Don't overdo things - It's not necessary to wash your hair daily. Three to four times a week with a mild shampoo will do. Don't overuse conditioners, as they damage your hair and cause split-ends.

* Eat healthy - This is basic, but very important! Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to get an ample supply of vitamins and other things needed for healthy, strong hair.

Try to follow these guidelines every day, and in just a short time, you will notice a dramatic difference in your hair.
