How to Promote Hair Growth
Growing long hair is a difficult proposition, as you can't do much to make it grow faster. Since waiting for hair to grow can be frustrating, it's tempting to buy into the many myths which exist about hair growth.
One example of these myths is the one which suggests that frequent cutting promotes longer and healthier hair. In truth, cutting hair only makes it shorter!
It's true that men's facial hair tends to grow fast and thick. This is due to hormonal activity, and it's these same activities which lead to baldness after a certain age. Women too can be subject to baldness, although it typically occurs later in life and in patterns which differ from males.
The major determining factor about your hair length is your hair shaft. The shape and width of the hair shaft is determined by your genetics. There is no way to cure any deficiencies or irregularities.
Healthy hair follicles can contribute to the overall appearance of your hair. Hair itself is a dead cell, which is why you do not feel any pain while cutting hair. To grow and maintain healthy follicles, you must follow proper eating habits.
You can further ensure the good health of your hair's condition by following a few basic steps:
1. Excessive brushing damages hair and splits hair ends. It's best to brush just enough to set your hairstyle.
2. Use only a good-quality brush or comb without any sharp-edged plastic or metal teeth, which damage hair and cause split ends.
3. It is best to buy and use quality shampoos and conditioners, even if they are costly. Many cheap shampoos contain ammonium laurel sulfate, which is harsh on your hair. It causes dryness, breakage, and split ends. Other shampoos contain specific silicon, which can destroy your hair.
4. You can supplement your diet with a daily multivitamin to promote hair health. Your vitamin should contain zinc and biotin, which are essential for growth. Excessive intake of vitamins will do no good, as your body flushes out any excess of vitamins.
5. Avoid tight braids and hair bands, as they can cause hair breakage and split ends.
