Using A Creme Relaxer
Creme relaxer is a product that's very popular among African-American women. No matter how many times it burns the scalp, breaks the hair, or dries it out, creme relaxer continues to be a best-seller among beauty products.
According to reports from The FDA Office of Cosmetics and Colors, chemical hair relaxers and dyes are among the top consumer complaints. These complaints range from simple hair breakage to dangerous reactions which result in emergency room visits. Most adverse experiences are associated with lye and no-lye relaxers.
When heated up by the body's temperature, the main active ingredient in creme relaxer allows the outer cuticle layer to swell and open. This allows the product to enter the hair shaft and absorb the moisture of the inner cortex. When this absorption occurs, the hair is straightened.
It's critical that creme relaxer not be left on the hair for longer than the recommended time, or too much moisture will be stripped from the hair. As a result, the inner scalp layer can suffer extreme damage which can affect the entire hair structure. When relaxing your hair at home, always follow the package instructions carefully to avoid serious damage to your hair.
