What Is An Interlock Weave?

What is an Interlock Weave?

Also known as "tree braiding", Interlocking is a unique and versatile hair weaving technique, one that has been around for many years.

An Interlock Weave will give you the look of a full head weave, but the cornrows will be at the base of the style. The hair can be braided in a circular pattern or straight back. You also have the choice of leaving your hair out - or having it all braided.

This is done by cornrowing the hair while adding extension hair for a free-flowing look. In this particular weave process, there is no bond, heat or adhesive used. When done properly, the Interlock Weave style is very flexible and can be worn in a pony tail or down with a nice bevel.

Tips for Interlock Weaves

Interlock Weaves can be done with straight, curly, wavy, wet-n-wavy, kinky or afro hair. There are several different choices when it comes to choosing hair for your weave. To avoid matting and severe tangling, always use superior-quality hair.

Interlock Weaves normally take about 3 to 4 hours to complete, and last about 2 to 3 months on average. To keep your weave looking fresh, you may find that you have to visit the salon every 2 to 4 weeks for minimal maintenance.

An important rule of thumb: be very careful when you're looking for a professional to do your Interlock Weave. Talk to the stylist to be sure that he or she is skilled in this particular technique. If this is not done properly, your Interlock Weave will shed.

To keep your Interlock Weave looking tight, tie your hair up at night with a silk scarf. If your hair is curly, you may want to use a bit of leave-in conditioner or setting lotion. For straight hair, try a dab of moisturizing lotion to keep your hair looking shiny, natural and beautiful.
