Tips For Maintaining A Hair Weave
Hair weaves require careful maintenance. If they are not properly cared for when combing and washing, they may become damaged.
Here are some tips for caring for your weave:
1. Typically, people comb hair from roots to ends. With weaved hair, you must do the opposite, starting from the ends and moving gradually upwards toward the base.
2. Brush your weave before you shampoo - or shampoo your hair and rinse between the tracks to remove oil and residue.
3. You must abstain from washing hair for two weeks to set the weave. Always use mild water while washing your hair, as water that's too hot or too cold may lock the hair at the base.
4. Avoid using harsh products for washing, styling or conditioning.
5. The use of alcohol-based products strips the hair's oils and you should not use them.
6. Visit your stylist often for care, and make sure you do not skip regular weave tightening touch-ups.
7. Using cotton pillowcases and sheets may adversely affect the shine of your hair. Instead, use a silk or satin scarf to wrap up your hair before going to bed.
8. While blow-drying, you must use a higher heat setting to straighten and dry the hair. Use variable temperatures for natural and commercial hair.
9. If you are at the beach and wish to swim, it's best to use a swim cap. Alternatively, you can saturate and rinse the hair with a cream rinse before plunging in.
10. When undoing a weave, seek the help of a salon professional.
Sometimes, you may get too busy managing your weave and unconsciously neglect your scalp. An unhealthy scalp may lead to skin irritation and other various conditions.
Dirt, sweat, styling products and natural oils are some of the ingredients that interfere with healthy hair. You should regularly shampoo and condition your hair to keep it clean.
Excessive use of styling products has been shown to shorten the longevity of hair extensions as well. Weaves require proper care to retain their beauty and to help you avoid common hair and scalp problems.
